Finding My Voice Through Writing

Selective Mutism have prevented me from speaking and using my voice in almost all social situations while growing up. I started blogging when I was 18 years old in order to share some of my own thoughts and what God puts on my heart. When I started my blog I never quite imagined what it would do for me personally or how it would help me.

For so many years Selective Mutism has stolen my voice from me. But through the journey of blogging I have been finding my voice through my writing. I do have a lot to say, but I struggle to express myself verbally in most situations. This blog has allowed me to express my thoughts through writing. It has helped me to share my own words and thoughts, which is something that I have been struggling to do for years, and it has allowed me to do so in a way that is comfortable for me.

As I also have more of an introverted personality I usually prefer to keep my thoughts to myself and certain parts of life, but blogging has in some ways challenged and helped me to slowly come out of my comfort zone. For many years my words and feelings have been stuck on the inside. This blog is what initially helped me to start sharing my own journey with friends and other people on social media.

Through these 3 years this blog have also taught me that speech is not the only way where we can communicate our words and thoughts. There are more than one way for our voices to be heard. God has given us all unique gifts and qualities for a purpose. My struggle with Selective Mutism has helped me to find the talent of writing, and throughout these last 3 years this blog has helped my voice to become heard through my writing.
