Using our God-Given Abilities

God has created us all uniquely with different gifts, talents, skills and abilities.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17

God has also given each us the ability to be passionate about different things in the world, such as the careers that we choose to pursue. It can sometimes be easy to think that our daily jobs or the careers we pursue is our only purpose in life. But this isn’t necessarily true.

He has given us all different things that we are good at. These may be things such as being good at singing, writing, etc. But these may also be things like having the ability to do something well, such as being a good listener, etc. God also has a plan and purpose for these God-given abilities that he has given us. He knew exactly what he was doing when he created us, and he hasn’t given us different abilities and personalities by chance.

Writing is something that I have enjoyed for quite some years now. Through having this blog I have been able to see where my strength in writing lies and where it doesn’t. A few years ago I would never have imagined that I would now have my own blog. Although I have always liked and enjoyed to write, I would never have actually thought that God would use me through writing. When I was younger, although writing was something that I liked I would never have seen myself pursuing it as a career in the future. I still don’t see that, but after nearly three years of having this blog I have started seeing writing and blogging as more of a ministry, and I believe that God will continue to bless others through this ability.

Your calling and purpose is not only found in your career job.

God didn’t give us talents and gifts in order for us to enjoy them for ourselves. He gave us these abilities in order for us to use them for his glory and purpose. To us these abilities and talents may seem insignificant, but to God they are very significant.

God wants us to live in obedience to him, and he wants us to use our God-given abilities in our everyday lives. I encourage you to seek God and ask him to reveal to you how you can start using your gifts, talents and abilities to serve him.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
